Yoga
For Weight Control
Yoga for weight control
is a gentle, multi-faceted program to help anyone with concerns about
their weight to achieve their own goals. Weight loss, maintenance and
even gain are all possible through this program.
We will be devote time
to creating each
individual's personal toolbox of powerful techniques and easily
achievable diet and exercise plans. Just as no two people are exactly
alike no two weight control regimes should be the same. This program
will not only stress what we can do to help ourselves through our personally
tailored plans, but also how we can help each other through sharing
and support.
Parts of the program will include:
1) Becoming fully conscious of our attitudes about food
and physical activity.
2) Taking a clear eyed view of our eating and exercise habits,
in
order to make modifications that are healthful for us.
3) Sharing with the group what works for us, so that everyone
can
benefit from our achievements.
4) Identifying self defeating habits and routines and slowly
moving in the direction of life affirming behaviors.
This will be combined with
traditional raja yoga classes, geared to stimulating a deep sense of
peace and contentment
and helping the practitioner to develop a daily practice of yoga.
We
will use
breathwork, physical postures, and guided relaxation to help create
the proper mood, attitude and resolve necessary to tame our personal
food, body image and exercise issues. It will also be a good time to
check in around progress from the Tuesday night session.
Instructor Ray Greenberg has many years
experience dealing with his own food issues. Ray has struggled with
overweight using various diets such as Atkins, Weight Watchers and Fit
for Life and has intimate personal experience with bulimia and anorexia.
Ray has experimented with live foods and
today eats a low fat and almost totally plant based diet. However, he
does not recommend this type of diet for most people. According to Ray,
the beauty of the yoga approach to weight control is that it teaches
us that, "we each must start where we are and learn to take small
loving steps in the direction we want to go."
A yoga practitioner for over 3 decades,
Ray has been teaching in Ulster County for the last 5 years. Certified
by Sri Yogi Dharma
Mittra in the lineage of Sivananda, the main philosophy is to "be
nice."
Ray's guarantee for the program is this.
We will be using time tested techniques and common sense. Sincere effort
will be rewarded.
