Iyengar's
New Book Due in April, prepublication
sale and much more....
This
month's offerings are fantastic learning
tools from Yoga Luminaries who have changed the face of Yoga.
Four excellent books, Iyengar's Yoga Wisdom and Practice, Yoga
Nidra and Hatha Yoga Pradipika from Swamis
at the Bihar School and Georg Fuerstein's intro to the entire
field of Yoga entitled Living Yoga, lead the way.
In electronic media, Asana master Ana Forrest gives us three
great resources for practitioners at every level of skill
and interest, and master teacher Paul Grilley offers Chakra
Theory and Meditation in a way that clearly marks a
path from bondage to liberation.

Hatha Yoga Pradipika
This is
the most complete translation of the Pradipika that I have encountered.
The original text is skimpy on details of the practices outlined. Most
translators flesh out the material a bit and the resulting volume is still slim,
but Swami Mukhtibodhananda has delved deep into each of the practices and describes
them and their variations at great length. |

Yoga Nidra
For
anyone who wants to experience deep states of relaxation
and the altered state of consciousness associated with
one pointed attention, the practice of Yoga Nidra is
an extremely valuable tool. This book breaks it down
and makes it plain how to travel this path. It is invaluable
for people who lead guided relaxations and a great resource
for practitioners. |

Chakra
Theory and Meditation
In this DVD, eminent yogi Paul
Grilley gives us the background we need to understand the subtle
energy system of the chakras. He also gives us practices to
fully explore each chakra and to overcome identification with
attachments that are blocking our spiritual growth. Paul's
easy going manner makes it fun to move along this path. |

Strength
and Spirit DVD
This DVD is a wonderful beginning yoga resource
and a great introduction to Ana Forrest Yoga. While some of the poses may be
challenging to people new to yoga, the long holds give one a chance to really
find their comfort zone in each posture and Ana's ongoing and insightful tips
for practice really help the practitioner to learn what they need to know. |

NEW "PLACES" Navigation
on
Yoga Life Style Website
The six Place Pages we introduced last month have been
a big hit with many hundreds of visitors navigating the site using them, so we've
hurried to add six more and intend to continue adding new sections as necessary
and as time permits. |
This
month's offering is very exciting to me since it is such
a dense batch of high quality teaching. I love being
able to share such great work from people of skill, dedication
and good spirit. I also realize, however, that though
such people can teach us much, they can't do the work
for us. We have to set aside the time to practice and
put our sweat on the mat or our seat on the cushion in
order to get results in our own lives. Most importantly,
we have to build the connections to our senses and our
hearts that will clear away the debris of conditioned
responses to life's challenges.
When we had our first warm days in a long time, a few weeks ago, my dog Misty
showed me the way. As soon the weather broke, her attention and excitement rose
to greet the warming world. She was off to explore what was emerging from the
snow and jumping and chasing and basically dancing into the change of seasons.
I, on the other hand, was still struggling to figure out what to wear and slowly
letting go of the sluggishness of Winter.
Eckhart Tolle suggests that "to offer no resistance to life is to be in
a state of grace, ease and lightness." One way to learn this, according
to him, is to "watch any animal and let it teach you acceptance of what
is. Observe its surrender to the Now. Let it teach you Being."
As the early blossoms emerge and insects and birds begin to fill the morning
air with their chants and songs, I hope I can learn from these masters how to
be at ease responding to each moment as it unfolds.
Peace and Love,
Ray (Yogeshvara OM)
