Summertime and the Yoga is Easy
Summertime is a great time for yoga for all of us in the northeast, because we can take our practices outside, doing yoga in the summer air with grass and earth between our toes. On a recent day in New York City's Central Park many of the beautiful lawns and knolls were peppered with yogis on and off brightly colored mats, stretching their bodies, warmed by the sun.
Yoga is a totally portable practice. Doing it out in the open helps spread the energy beyond ourselves, into the world. A teacher of mine once reminded me that the closest someone may get to god today is sitting next to me on the bus. Now someone can see me doing asana behind my car as I get gas, on line at the super market and in a local park at lunchtime. It does not guarantee that I'll stay connected to the best that is within me but it helps. What a nice thing to do for myself and share with the world!
