Imported from Tibet
5 inch and 4 inch black enameled brass singing bowls from Tibet.
Carrying these lovely Tibetan bowls has been a learning experience for me. When they first arrived from their long trip from East Asia to my NY warehouse, I have to admit I was very disappointed. I was thinking that I could not sell them online because they were flawed. Each one has something wrong with it. Some have spots on their bottom enamel that are scratched. Some of them have sides that are a bit scuffed. From a distance they are all lovely but close inspection suggests they are not new like items I am accustomed to.
Oh boy, was I unhappy. I decided that since I could not sell them on the internet where the small flaws of each one can't be shown cost effectively, I need to sell them in in-person situations like our showroom and yoga conferences. That is where the learning happened.
What I discovered by offering them directly to many, many prospective buyers, is that people judge these bowls by how they look overall which is very nice, but much more so by how they sound. Does the bell ring sweet and long when struck? Does the tone rise away from the bowl and sound like it is floating around the room, full of a life of its own? Does the toning respond to subtle shifts in pressure and speed? Selling them to people who were able to use the bowls taught me that these are wonderful instruments. Their tones are lovely, sweet and true. No one has even noticed the blemishes that were bothering me so much, or if they have the unique character it gives them is just more about the item to love. So, obviously, a shift was necessary.
I did not want to be withholding these wonderfully alive vessels from my online friends. To make sure you are not disappointed, I or someone in my organization has played each bowl to make sure it rings loud, clear and long and tones with ethereal grace. Any bowls that are not great I will keep for personal use to hold things like business cards or paper clips or take to shows to sell at a discount marked clearly as For Decorative Use Only. The ones that have lovely transporting resonance are the only ones I will offer here.
|Each bowl is unique.
Since the writing and the decorative molding on and in each bowl varies please trust that you will get the bowl that is right for you. It will have a lovely ring when struck and ethereal tone when circled with the wooden wand and it may not look exactly like the bowls pictured on this page. In general the larger bowls have a deeper tone and hold that tone longer than the smaller bowls.
Each bowl comes with a cushion and a striker. Choose your size below.
