Like its big brother
the Bheka
Transformer, the Bheka Transformer Lite mat
has many fine qualities. It's
unique composition provides cushioning (though not as much
as a Transformer) and support, grip
without
being sticky and unlike most other mats
it will not wear out or fall apart or get little holes
in it from normal use (including rigorous practices like
Ashtanga Vinyasa, Power and Flow yogas). As a result, unless
you feel the need for the fuller cushioning of the 1/4
inch thick Transformer or the extra 2 inches of width of
that mat, this mat will probably be the last mat you will
ever purchase.
Besides being durable and longlasting the Transformer
Lite's 3/16 inch of material is comfortable for all but the most sensitive spines,
knees,
wrists, hips, elbows, heads and necks on hard surfaces like concrete and wood.
It is also reasonably stable on uneven surfaces like plush rugs and grass.
Its unique
composition and texture are secrets of the German company that manufactures it
for us, however, I can tell you that it is made in a way that creates zero emissions
and is certified human friendly by the Okeo-Tex standard. This secret formula
makes it unique in that it has great gripping properties without being sticky.
So, while your hands and feet will hold fast, your cat hair, lint and other undesirables
will come off easily. Also this mat is not slippery when wet, so it is perfect
for heavy sweaters,
like myself and for those who have energetic, athletic practices.
This
great mat is an ample 24 inches wide and comes in 2 lengths; 71 inches for those
6 foot tall or shorter and 84 inches for those
who are taller or have especially spirited practices. These mats weight 4.5 and
5.25 pounds respectively. It comes in one color, purple.
These mats require a break in period of a few days to a few weeks based on a thin wax coating used to create the unique texture during manufacture. The most typical way to remove this coating is to use the mat. After a few weeks of regular use it will have its excellent traction. Though I haven't tested this myself I have been told that leaving the mat in the sun somehow breaks down the wax and will expedite the break in process. Washing the mat does not work as well as leaving it in the sun or using it.
