For people who have done
traditional hatha yoga and already know the poses, who are
in good enough shape to hold them for a few breaths and want
to move into linking them vinyasa style this is a great beginner's
resource. For absolute yoga beginner's this DVD could leave
you yearning for some more detailed instruction on specific
poses. For someone looking to try yoga after doing little or
no exercise for a long time Flow Yoga is probably not the place
to start, unless you don't mind taking breaks along the way.
For Shiva Rea fans who want another interesting sequence
from the master of flow yoga this DVD will do nicely. It
is great companion to the practice of Flow Yoga.
There are 4 main sequences:
1) Foundation Flow consisting of breathing exercises and a warmup floor vinayasa
including cat and cobra poses. 14 minutes
2) Beginner's Backbend Flow consisting of lunges, bent leg standing twists,
side bends and ending with cobra and bow. Variations are given for those who
may struggle with the full poses. 20 minutes.
3) Relaxing Flexibility Flow consisting of floor postures you can do on your
back and ending with a full forward bend. 10 minutes.
4) Beginner's Standing Pose Flow consisting primarily of Warrior, Warrior variations
and poses you can do from warrior pose including some more back bends. It is
the most challenging segment and something true beginner's may have to work up
to. 23 minutes.
Shot in Hawaii in lovely locations, on a rock
by the ocean, in a gardent and on the beach, it is mostly lovely, though
the final sequence is a little dark.
