Call and response,
those words for one hour.
While this may sound mind numbing, the way it is
done is captivating, uplifting and soothing at the same time. Lead vocalist Krishna
Das begins his call and response chanting of this verse with a chorus of 70 angelic
souls accompanied only by his mournful harmonium. As the suite progresses the
tempo and instrumentation shift. First, the pure rich sound of KD's voice is
joined by tabla and percussion as the energy begins to build. Then piano and
violin deepen the mood before electric, guitar, full drums and backup vocals
really rock the chant. This ecstatic celebration of the Lord moves into afro
centric rhythms as it winds to a close, leaving the listener with blissful energy.
This is a great CD for background music for life
in general and vinyasa yoga in particular.
