Teacher's Manual
For Teaching Yoga to Children in Grades K-5

In India children are taught hatha yoga at
an early age to develop physical, mental and emotional strength, balance and
flexibility.Other benefits include improved focus, concentration and memory.
This Teacher's Manual was developed for use in
the San Fransisco Unified School District (SFUSD) where it started as a pilot
program and has been expanded to be part of the regular curriculum of many
schools. The program was designed to meet the Physical Education and Academic
Curriculum
requirements of the State of California and the SFUSD.
This Teacher's Manual is a guide to introducing
the benefits of yoga to young people in a fun, informative way that makes meeting
physical education goals and academic requirements more interesting and rewarding.
The core of the program is the ABC Yoga Series
which addresses various areas of physical fitness. The A Series is focused
on balance and asthma relief. The B Series is focused on development of body
strength.
The C Series is focused on coordination and flexibility. There are 29 other
lesson plans which cover areas of anatomy, physics, astronomy, geometry, performing
arts, visual arts and yoga and are suggested as adjuncts to regular classroom
studies.
Authors Sandy Wong Sanchez and Tony Sanchez have
been running a successful yoga studio for many years. Tony is a well known
yoga expert with many yoga videos, posters and books to his credit. The Teacher's
Manual has been at the heart of of their successful community outreach program,
where they have helped hundreds of teacher's and students to explore the benefits
of yoga through yoga education. Click
