Life On Land
by Emilie Conrad

Emilie Conrad's Life
on Land is a fascinating autobiography by the visionary teacher
who developed Continuum, a body movement method that can be as
liberating as an inward exploration as it is freeing as a physical
therapy.
As one might expect from a groundbreaking mystic,
this book is in turns poetic and beautiful and disturbing and thought provoking.
The mosaic formed by her difficult early childhood of abuse and emotional neglect
to her emergence as a dancer, model and teacher is at once hard to take in, rivetting
and uplifting. Her theories on human evolution, the formation of patterned movements
and the potential for human growth are fascinating and inspirational. For anyone
interested in body movement in general and Continuum in particular this book
will make a fascinating and revelatory read.
Emilie Conrad was born and raised in New York City
where she studied ballet and Afro-Haitian dance. Her successful career included
teaching at the Actor's Studio in Los Angeles and choreographing many plays and
performance works. In 1974 she pioneered a protocol for spinal cord injury at
UCLA, helping discover new ways to enliven areas that had lost movement. Her
work has been embraced by an international audience of professionals from fields
such as Osteopathy, Psychoneuroimmunology, physical therapy, Rolfing, Zero balancing,
Hellerwork and physical fitness. She lives in Los Angeles and teaches Continuum
workshops in the US and abroad. |
