The Journey From the
Center
To the Page
by Jeff
Davis

OK,
so here is where my job gets really fun. I have a chance
to enthuse about a friend's work, learn more about yoga
and myself and share something I think
is of great value with those who can benefit. What could be a better way
to spend an hour?!
I wish this book had been available to me 30 years
ago when I was writing for various campus publications and then embarking on
a short lived career in television production and I'm glad to have encountered
it now. What is so great about this book is that it invites, encourages and exorts
the reader to make a commitment to find their inner voice, to tap the wellsprings
of creativity within and to discipline themselves to find true freedom. The focus
is on using the the practices of the yogi, particularly breathing exercises,
physical postures and meditation to inform and enhance one's writing. The exercises
in the book could be applied to crafting a more creative and satisfying life
in any field of endeavor or no field of endeavor, however. So non-writers may
like it too.
Author Jeff Davis's descriptions of the processes
of becoming centered and exploring inner landscapes alone would be worth the
price of this book, but there is much more. In chapter after chapter, Jeff instructs
us in ways of goal setting and problem solving by listening to our inner voice.
He shows us how to overcome the many obstacles that will stand in our way and
come out the other side made stronger by the experience. He gives countless examples
of how this sort of process can lead to wonderful creations and it is truly inspiring.
There are many "yoga for this" and "yoga
for that" books out today and some have merit and some seem more like a
chance to cash in on yoga's new found popularity. This book is an outgrowth of
Jeff's teaching of creative writing for 20 years and his deep practice of yoga.
He is a certified yoga instructor in two traditions and teaches regularly at
his Wen Barn Studio.
He also gives regular writer's workshops throughout the year all around the United
States.

authentic selves." - Robert S. Nelsen, Director
of Creative Writing, The University of Texas at Dallas
" There is so much good information in this book... Yogis
may find a desire to write and writers will find support for turning their sedentary,
often lonely, vocation, into an embodied and dynamic practice." -
